The SAT is designed very differently from a regular high school test. Some students can be doing very well at school and not do so well on the SAT. Taking this test is a learned skill. The good news: the process of studying for the SAT also provides an opportunity to equip a student to succeed in college at editing their papers, at reading texts beyond their comprehension in diverse formats like technical writing or statistical writing, and to gain vocabulary and writing skills before college.
In this 10 weeks of equipping, your student will learn:
To get the most out of these 10 weeks, the following study schedule will be recommended: 10 minute exercises 4-5 days a week, one 30 minute to 1 hour practice segment per week.
After the 10 weeks students will have been introduced to every concept they need to succeed at the English portion of the SAT, and will have a structure in place to continue to study on their own. Students who want to continue to work on their weak points each week, can sign up for further sessions.
Breanna Menzies has been teaching students the English portion of the SAT for 10 years. She is currently a Latin teacher at a local Classical School.
In this 10 weeks of equipping, your student will learn:
- All 60 grammar rules
- An entire structure of memorizing vocabulary based on building words using roots from Latin
- How to manage time
- Skill sets for testing and tools to increase reading comprehension such as tracking the main points in diverse types of writings, and not interpreting in the text things that aren't there
- (Bonus: These tools also greatly help students write and edit great college papers!)
