2 Instructors for Clarinet, Saxophone, & Flute
Brian Kent: Both in-person & online lessons available
Brian Kent has studied saxophone since he was eight. He grew up in a musical family and was heavily influenced by his father, an exceptional jazz drummer in his own right, who exposed him to such musical greats as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Bill Evans. These early influences instilled a deep and permanent love for jazz that shaped Mr. Kent's musical career and personality. Mr. Kent attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating Magnum cum Laude with a degree in Jazz Performance. He gigged locally in Boston and led his own quartet before moving to Seattle in 1988, where he began performing and recording with local talent. Since then he has gained a reputation as one of Seattle's premiere saxophone players and instructors.
Brian Kent has played with Jay Clayton, Stuart Depster, Buddy Catlett, Denny Goodhew, Joe McPhee and Floyd Sandifer and has recorded with Wayne Horvitz, Chuck Metcalf, Little Bill and the Blue Notes, Barney McClure, Larry Jones and Hans Teuber to name a few.
Brian has taught saxophone, flute, and clarinet lessons to students throughout the Seattle-East side metropolitan area since 1990. Two of the main schools in which he has taught are Pacific Music in Redmond for 21 years and Roberts Music Institute in Bellevue. Mr. Kent offers individualized instruction in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere where students can enjoy learning to play songs while exploring their musical potential. Emphasis is on having fun!
In his free time, Brian can often be found hiking in the Cascades with his four-legged canine pal, Darla.
