Born as Fritz Delius and later adopted the name Frederick Delius, was an English composer from Bradford, England.

Frederick was exposed to music at an early age, growing up from a family who were penchant of music with famous musicians regularly performing for their family. He was able to find his niche, heavily influenced by plantation songs, mixed with folk melodies, nature-infused harmony and African-American music.

He eventually matured in his techniques and transitioned to crafting music from an array of available instruments. He was so eager to sought the instruments that will precisely replicate the sound that he wanted to portray, hence, his masterpieces are described to somewhat near to a painting,  close to "Pointillism.”

Frederick undeniably was a poignant artist who created his sets of music way beyond the traditional methods. His artistry became a crucial part of the standard English repertory.

George Gershwin was a notable songwriter who rose fame for his unique musical pieces. He added his own flair with a bit of jazz tones and rhythmic vitality combined with blues-tinged, and powerful sympathetic lyrics which elevated the classical music into a different dimension. He has musical instinct and the uncanny ability to manipulate his music into different forms made his musical career highly-regarded.

George Gershwin was one of the prominent and successful members of the group of songwriters and publishers who revolutionized the American popular music during the era of “Tin Pan Alley.”

He was known for his works such as An American in Paris, Rhapsody in Blue, and “Porgy and Bess,” a rather controversial yet significantly his most successful work.

George Gershwin, in 2005 was accorded the crown of being the “wealthiest composer” among all composers of all time.

"Porgy and Bess", A significant opera depicting African-American community by George Gershwin

Based on the DuBose’s novel entitled “Porgy”, “Porgy and Bess” is an opera crafted by the talented American composer, George Gershwin. Gershwin took the inspiration from a play with the same title “Porgy,” created by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward.

The opera had attracted much controversies not only because the cast was an assemble of talented classical African-American performers but because it perpetuated the demeaning stereotypes surrounding the black people- a fearless yet sensitive socio-political subject at a time when discrimination was prevalent.

Not only that, there is a discomfiting contradictory with the setup as Gershwin’s most-performed opera features the African-American musicians, but is the work of an all-white casts.

Nevertheless, “Porgy and Bess” demonstrated power and social relevance, an extraordinary and unforgettable defiance of how Gershwin’s Porgy remains a tiny David against the Goliaths of this world.
