Remembering the Underrated Austrian Maestro, Gustav Mahler

Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) was an Austrian composer well-remembered for his orchestral pieces and symphonies.

Due to traditional limits during the late Romantic era, though he was well-respected as a conductor and did enjoy periods of success and acclaim, he didn’t receive his deserving appreciation until long after his passing due public’s inability to fully understand his work. 

But that didn't stop this underrated musician from producing unique pieces which today is considered to be worthy precursor of the 20th-century musical styles, inspiring the likes of Benjamin Britten and Arnold Schoenberg.

Henry Purcell (1659-1695) truly was a great musical virtuoso. Even more than 300 years after his demise, he was unarguably one of the greatest composers of Britain. 

Purcell from the beginning flourished and created great music in his life! He had a gift and talent that gave birth to a genre which was truly his own. He produced exquisite, outstanding melody and a capacity to express diligently which appealed greatly to the audience.

He continues to be both an inspiration and a point for cultural recognition. His musical versatility was so apparent in his magnificent compositions, stage works, church music, instrumental music, keyboard music, operas and plays with incidental music and songs.

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) was a bona fide composer whose works highlighted his technical mastery and originality.

Mendelssohn spent his career writing operas, symphonies, sonatas, concerti and much more. He skillfully integrated his original pieces with elements of Romantic and Classical music to form a unique style. He became a leader among composers in the 1830's and enjoyed great fame and respect until his death in Leipzig in 1847. His music has affected Western styles of his time is undeniable and his own tireless efforts to resurrect forgotten tunes from the past make him a wonderful artist, as well as an enduring human being.

Get to know the master before the masters, Joseph Haydn

Austrian composer Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was one of the pioneers of classical music.

He was a man of experimentation and varying trends, using happy and elegant aesthetics of Baroque music of the past during his younger years and became a bit more serious and grim on his maturity yet had regained his old charisma and originality of his youth, creating masterpiece after masterpiece during the last two decades of his life.

Haydn was full of musical ingenuity and was and still is revered as the master before the masters (Mozart, Beethoven, etc.) whose work sits at the upper echelon of magnificence.

German composer George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was a highly-regarded artist at the latter stages of the Baroque era.

He had an uncanny ability to mix harmonic passages with contrapuntal parts for a piece and his versatility from Germanic to exquisite Venetian musical style had produced outstanding operas, oratorios, and instrumentals which earned him royal appreciation!
