Known first as the "Mighty Handful”, “The Five” or "The Mighty Five" was a powerhouse musical group formed together by five of the most celebrated Russian composers including Alexander Borodin, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Modest Mussorgsky, César Cui, and their leader Mily Balakirev.
The formation was dated in 1856 all of which started so young and were basically amateur back then, just relied on self-training and improvement.
They faced a lot of opposition, heavy criticisms and mockeries from the Russian Musical Society yet the group remained steadfast in their artistic collaboration aimed to create a distinct genre of Russian classical music.
